Pre-Order: Searching for a King

It’s still really early (the book hits shelves in August), but Amazon.com is now taking pre-orders for my upcoming book and they are pricing it at $18 for the hardcover – pretty good deal IMO!

While I’m on the subject of Muslim nonviolence, I’ve also been invited by Oxford University Press to write the entry for “Muslim nonviolence” in the innovative Oxford Bibliographies Online (OBO) project. That entry is due in March, so I imagine it’ll be published sometime around May for those interested in the subject.

2012: A Busy Year Ahead

Happy new year! There’s lots to do in the months ahead. The book Searching for a King has faced a short production delay at Potomac Books and it’s now scheduled to hit shelves at the end of the summer. The release of the book will come with a modest publicity blitz. I’ll have some events and appearances to announce.  I’d sure love to make an appearance on The Daily Show (we’ll see)!

In the mean time, I am scheduled to give a presentation on Tunisian civil society initiatives out in San Francisco at the end of July. I’ll be there on behalf of the Center for Strategic Communication (CSC) at Arizona State University. My colleagues and I are involved in a number of exciting research projects. The CSC recently added some great new facilities on the ASU campus and we’re planning a few public events this year, so keep the CSC on your radar.

On a different subject, I’m on pace to complete a novel manuscript by the summer. It’s a work of magical realism with a healthy touch of historical fiction. I’ve put a good amount of my academic expertise to use in the manuscript, so it’s been an interesting exercise expressing that knowledge through a fictional narrative. Ultimately though, the fiction market is a very different beast, so we’ll see how it all turns out.

I hope everyone has a terrific 2012!

Halverson returns from Tunisia

I recently returned from two weeks traveling throughout Tunisia. It was a memorable and eye-opening experience in a country still making major transitions after the historic January 14th revolution that initiated the ‘Arab Spring.’
